Buongiorno!
I’m a bit sad today because I’m feeling a bit homesick, I miss my dad Roberto. Buona Festa del Papa’!!
On 19th March, St. Joseph’s day, we celebrate Father’s Day in Italy.
The origin of the festival dates back to the early twentieth century, where it was celebrated in June. Whilst the date is not changed in many countries, like France, in Italy it was decided to move to 19 March, the Feast of St. Joseph, patron saint of carpenters, the poor, orphans.
Initially it was a public holiday, but today it no longer continues to celebrate Dads with gifts and greeting cards, while the children prepare crafts, poems, phrases and drawings.
In fact, in the days preceding the festival, at school the teachers are preparing children to small art gifts for Father’s Day, many times these gifts are cut out of paper or cardboard and coloured which contain poems or nice phrases.
Being a Christian holiday, many convents and churches of Italy held ceremonies and events, while families celebrate with a lunch or dinner at a restaurant, or a gift.
