Useful words for giving or asking for directions in Italian
To the left = A sinistra
To the right = A destra
Street= Strada=ex: Prenda questa strada – please take this road
Street=Via but it’s usually followed by the name of the road. ex: Il duomo e’ in Via Puccini
To turn= Girare
To cross= Attraversare
Il rondo’ or la rotonda = Roundabout
the bus stop = La fermata dell’autobus
The traffic light = Il semaforo
In the city centre = In centro
Is it far? = E’ lontano?
Is it near?= E’ vicino?
100 metres away= a cento metri
A stone’s throw away = a due passi (literally two steps)
Just here=proprio qui
Down here= giu’ di qui
Then=Poi (pronounced Poeeh)
5 minutes away on foot = cinque minuti a piedi
Straight on= Sempre dritto or Tutto dritto
And remember if Italians say it’s near..it might be slightly exaggerated.. 😉
